China: "Countess Caroline" Cover
The 5 Candarin yellow was the highest value of China's first Issue of stamps in 1878. There were only a few sheets issued which had a wide spacing between the designs and so the 5 Candarin wide spacing quickly became the rarest, most valuable and most sought after first stamp of China. This famous cover addressed to "Countess Caroline" bears the highest number of these stamps ever used and the largest block beautifully placed at the back of the cover. For many decades it is acknowledged worldwide as the most valuable and most important item in Chinese philately.
